Wie viel Armut braucht der Kapitalismus?
On 23 November 2021, a workshop on “Zero Poverty” was organised by Kiel University in the framework of a research project funded by the European Regional Development Fund (LPW-E/1.2.1/353). In a virtual podium discussion, Christina Hießl, lead researcher of WorkYP’s German unit, debated the question “How much poverty does capitalism need?” with UK sociologist Prof. Colin Crouch, who is known for coining the concept of post-democracy. Focusing on the German experience of a conscious state-led expansion of the low-wage sector and its aftermath, participants were invited to discuss the relationship between poverty, economic and societal development, relying i.a. on first comparative insights from the WorkYP project
